Fraser Valley Sheep Dog Trial
August 27 - 28, 2005
Ken MacKenzie from Drayton Valley. Alberta kindly agreed to judge our trials and did an excellent job. Saturday was sunny, hot and the sheep were challenging. We had a great day with the novice people getting started in the morning followed by the pro-novice class and the open in the afternoon. There were quite a few spectators which came to watch the trial (certainly not anything like the Metchosin Trial gets) and they all seems quite pleased to be watching these wonderful dogs.
Jamie, Rose and Lani served up a wonderful dinner again this year which 55 people sat down and enjoyed under our wonderful donated tents. Thanks to the Matsqui Credit Union and the Aldergrove Credit Union’s for their loan of the tents. Of course lunch was cooked and served by our wonderful Carly Revel.
Sunday turned out to be cooler and the sheep were a bit more agreeable. We managed to get through our 73 runs in good time, only to have a downpour start three minutes after the last open run!
Our thanks certainly went out to lots and lots of volunteers that put together the trial. That includes the crew that trims and foot bathes the sheep and worm them, being Tim Ballard, Pam May, Brian Nelson, Corrine LaPoint-Turk, Dan and Melanie Robinson, and of course Dave Stephens.
The great people that put up the exhaust fence this year were Brian, Tim, Charmaine, Rick and Pam. They also set up the pens and holding pens, tents and in gates.
The cross fence, and finishing touches were done on Thursday and Friday by Lee, Brian, Tim, Pam. During the trial, everyone helped with the pen work including Joanne, Dawn,Pam, Tim, Jennifer, and a lot of others I didn’t get to thank.
Set out was done by most of the open handlers and I thanks them for their help. Thanks to Len Brunner who the sheep seemed to fall in love with!
